For the Capital Group project, we encountered challenges such as uncovering a concrete vault on the 33rd floor and obtaining approval for the use of custom materials from the city. Despite a few early obstacles, the project maintained its timeline by scheduling demolition at night and continuing work during the day to minimize disruption.
Highlights included seamless collaboration between Gensler’s teams in New York and Los Angeles and the impressive feat of cutting multiple stairwells within an existing building that required hoisting thousands of pounds of structural steel high above the streets of Los Angeles. Unique materials like European limestone, exclusive custom light fixtures, demountable wall systems from Italy, and an Arktura ceiling added unique elements to the project. The standout aspect was the innovative design of the stairs, showcasing the project’s commitment to functionality and aesthetics.
